Berlin!

Katie, my future roommate, has lived in Germany for the past year. She recently moved from her university town to Berlin for an internship and research project. While I was there she had to work so I was on my own for two days and it was the first time in nearly five weeks that I had a day all by myself. It made me realize how lucky I had been to have people with me all the time and to show me around. The weather in Berlin wasn't the greatest and I'm a fair weather person, so I didn't do as much as I could have, but I definately liked what I saw.

These are some pictures from a memorial made for the Jews who were murdered during World War II. It is a very interesting place and it was surprisingly really emotional for me to be there. As you can see from the photos, the memorial was made up of small and large, uneven stones. The stones are perfectly cut and vary in height and width. The ground also goes up and down like littl hills It was really unsettling to be there. The stone got so big that you could get lost in them. In some ways it reminded me of the Vietnam memorial in Washington, D.C., simple, yet moving.

A church that was bombed during World War II.

I must say that my favorite part of Berlin was the last night when Kate and I went to a wine bar. This place didn't have prices so you just paid what you thought your experience was worth. It was really fun and it was a great chance for us to catch up with each other. After the wine we went and got Mexican food. It was a blast!
